The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California covers San Diego County and Imperial County. Its main office is in the city of San Diego. It also has offices in El Centro and Yuma, Arizona. The city attorney is the legal adviser for the city and its departments and prosecutes criminal misdemeanors and infractions committed within the city. The city attorney’s department also defends lawsuits filed against the city and prosecutes civil rights violations and fraud committed against city employees. The City Attorney’s office is up for election in 2024.
